The home movie was a silent medium that consequently imparted an (involuntary) measure of abstraction to the images. Although sound film first became commercially available in the seventies, it was relatively unpopular due to its technical shortcomings. Gradually, however, amateur films were more and more often dubbed. The BBC played into this market by issuing a series of LP records with selections from its extensive sound library. The collections of useful sound effects included animals, the sea, passing cars, rustling trees etc. The soundtrack of the work Temps Mort is a compilation of these sounds recorded onto a new LP.
